Methods of Punishment
Students may be punished by the following methods:
A Private Detentions
A private detention can be held by any teacher in respect of any violation of any school rule or for delinquency with regard to homework or lateness. The time and place of the private detention would be the teacher’s responsibility. One should not keep students after 3.00 p.m. without giving them at least 24 hours notice.
B Community Service
Community service can be in the form of manual labour. Please consult with the Year Head of the offending student.
C Caning
Corporal punishment can only be administered by the Principal, Deputy Principal and the Senior Teachers. Please DO NOT administer corporal punishment if you do not hold any of these positions.
D Suspension from school
Suspension from school is the sole prerogative of the Principal. When a student has been suspended or expelled from school, the Principal will inform the members of staff by placing the appropriate information on the notice board.
Please note that:-
I. Ejection from a class can only be done by the Principal;
II. A teacher may ask a child to stand (a) inside the class, usually at the back (b) at the door where they can still hear what is going on in the class.
III. On no account must any student be prevented from entering a class unless he/she is sent to the Year Head, Principal or Dept. Principal with a written report for inordinate behaviour.
IV All students must be under the guidance of a teacher at all times during the day.
BLUE CARDS:
If a student persists in exhibiting poor work or conduct a Daily Report Card may be issued to the student. This card provides a regular check on work and conduct and must be initialled by each teacher who attends the class during the day.
